General description

API Management is the company’s centralized location to expose services. Currently, it is used to expose several systems like the Appointments App, Maximo, and the Helpdesk system.  The aim of this function is to provide central management and monitoring of API’s.  We can also add API’s to lower level business applications which would allow the API to be monitored within the context of the application its part of, but we will also monitor centrally here too across all API’s.

The following resource types can be deployed here:

  • APIM APIs

  • APIM Services

  • Application Insights

Monitoring and logging

For monitoring the resources in API Management, a monitoring profile is used. With this profile, monitoring happens for:

  • Failed Requests

  • Average Response Times

  • Unauthorized Requests

Notifications are sent via Microsoft Teams Channels (no escalation).

Logging is done with Application insights.
